Response to intervention (RtI) involves both our general and special education staff, along with GRPS Staff and our Christian Learning Center psychologist. RtI is the framework for delivering support to students and includes many of the theories and practices that WSCS has used for years. This framework allows for these services to be offered in a more formal process.
West Side uses the RtI process to determine the range of learners in our classrooms. We use this process to identify students at risk for poor learning outcomes in literacy and math, to provide evidence-based interventions and monitor student progress, and to more quickly pinpoint learning or other disabilities. It is also a helpful tool as we work to differentiate instruction for all students, including those who meet/exceed standards.
We are confident that this screening process and instructional delivery will continue to help all students reach their God-given potential at WSCS related to their academic success. If you have further questions regarding the RtI process at WSCS, please feel free to contact your child's teacher or Julie Louwerse, RtI Coordinator.
