"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
Be the light - this is our goal for the students at West Side Christian School this year!
We kicked off our theme at the pig roast dinner last week, lighting candles throughout the school and lining the halls with parents, students, and grandparents praying over the school, staff, students, and community.
Each classroom teacher launched a lantern decorated with the students' names in the rooms this year, symbolizing our students and school being the light of the world. Earlier this week a gentleman who lives about a mile from school excitedly brought us two of our lanterns that landed near his home!
Spiritual emphasis week 2015 focuses on our theme verses for the year chosen by the 8th grade class. This is the first time that we are starting the year with spiritual emphasis week because we want to first and foremost go forward with God and use this time to frame our worship and our work this year at West Side Christian School.
As we start this new school year, we are challenging and encouraging our students to be a light for others so they see Christ in us and through us.
We will be discovering different ways that we can all be lights to others here at school, to our families at home, and in the world around us. We want to shine for him!
As part of spiritual emphasis week, parents and grandparents were invited to join us for all-school chapel on Thursday. Mrs. VanderVennen led worship and Mr. Aldrich shared some thoughts on being the light.
We will have a prayer room set up in the middle school hallway next week Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Each class will have a time to go into the prayer room together and pray for the items noted on the murals at the pig roast, classroom requests, and anything on their minds. Parents and grandparents are invited to the prayer room as well on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 11:45-12:55.
We also have a "city on the hill" mural in the hallway by the library. Each child from each class will decorate a "person" and put on it how they are going to be the light, and then will place it on the mural as a visual commitment and reminder to be the light!
To end our spiritual emphasis week, parents are also invited to all-school chapel on Wednesday, September 16th at Westend Church for praise and worship time and 8th grade skits.
How are you going to be the light this year?
