New Beginnings

So long 2016! Hello 2017!

I love starting a new year. There is something fresh and exciting about a new start. There is a quote going around Facebook that a country singer named Brad Paisley is given credit for that is so true; "Tomorrow is the first blank page of a 365 page book. Write a good one."

A blank page, a brand new book. What does that stir up in you? Are there areas in your life that you want a "do-over"? Does the thought of something new excite you or scare you?

Here is the good news! God already has your book written. You don't have to make it up as you go, you just have to read it and follow what it says. Your book is full of adventure, laughter, friends, tears, sorrow, and value. It is all part of His glorious plan for you.

When January rolls around we begin to think about or resolutions. Well, friends, I gave up making those years ago! Do you know that over 80% of people who make resolutions either break them or forget about them before January is over?

January! Really?

We resolve to lose weight and exercise more (every.single.year). We resolve to read the Bible more and pray more (very noble, but is it authentic?). We resolve to eat healthier (you know what? Eat the cake!).

So before January gets away from us and we lose our resolve to keep our resolutions...let me challenge your thinking for a minute. Instead of resolutions how about re-evaluations?

Look at your proverbial plate. I know some of you have so many things on your plate that it is spilling over.

Is that REALLY what God has called us to? Trust me when I say I am speaking of myself as well! Think of this "plate" as sacred space.

Does that change what you put on it? It should!

What if you only put on things with eternal value, things that you delight in and are not burdened in, things that are God's calling and not obligatory responsibilities?

Wouldn't there be more peace? Less stress?

I know this is easier said than done but it is definitely worth looking at. No more unrealistic resolutions. Put your commitments and time takers through God's filter and see what drains out and what stays. That is a huge clue as to what to invest your time, energy and your money in.

God may be calling you to step back or step up. Either way He is in it and should receive all the glory.

And just think, you have a brand new year to start this with! Many blessings to you and yours as we journey together. Happy New Beginnings.
