Nature Preschool is new to West Side Christian School this year and it’s been a learning experience for us as well as our students -- and that’s one of the exciting things about it! We thought it would be helpful for you to hear our Nature Preschool parents’ experiences this year, and also hear their answers to commonly asked questions about Nature Preschool!
We already heard what surprised parents most about Nature Preschool. The next question we asked parents was, “What has been your favorite thing about Nature Preschool?”
So here’s what parents had to say, in their own words:
My favorite part is that learning takes place in a play-based, natural environment, where students are encouraged to ask questions, discover God's creation, and be creative.
Something that we were really hoping would happen was that our son would stretch his limits a little bit. What I mean by that is he was pretty closed minded on trying anything new. He has truly learned to love being outside AND being dirty, which is a complete 180 from before he started Nature Preschool.
I think just seeing my child grow such a love for learning this year. Put a child in nature where they can do anything they want and have them learning at the same time, genius!
How often Blandford Nature Center would come to the school (and bring live animals). I also LOVE how they color and make pictures out of organic things like plants and needles.
From a Christian perspective, we as a family feel that when you are in nature it is also a way to worship, feel and see Jesus, this is Our Father's World.
I enjoy seeing him tackle each day as an adventure, negative temps, mosquito bites and mud he takes it in all in and I think it helps him develop character and surprisingly very little complaining about the weather.
The outdoor discovery and the daily hikes. They will be in school all day inside for a long time. In our opinion you can't replace this time outside discovering nature and getting fresh air!
My favorite thing about Nature Preschool is the connection with God’s creation and the diverse and seemingly advanced topics the preschoolers learn. My daughter’s favorite is playing kitchen with her friends and painting OUTSIDE!
Our child learning about nature and animals by being around them. It has taught him to love going outside and not being afraid to get dirty. It makes us feel better about living in the city, giving him an opportunity to explore the outdoors.
He loves being outside, and he said that he loves going outside first thing.
I love the fact that he loves God's creation so much. He has a sense of ownership when it comes to nature, as well as his own learning. He goes to school happily. His vocabulary has grown so much---at home he will ask me if I want to help him "investigate" something.
My favorite thing is the relationship with Blandford Nature Center.
Ms. VerWoert: I love watching the students get excited about what we are observing, exploring, or talking about each day. I love to see them learning through play! I also love starting our day at the stump circle reading the Bible and singing to our Creator in His creation.
