Nature Preschool is new to West Side Christian School this year and it’s been a learning experience for us as well as our students -- and that’s one of the exciting things about it! We thought it would be helpful for you to hear our Nature Preschool parents’ experiences this year, and also hear their answers to commonly asked questions about Nature Preschool!
We already heard what surprised parents most about Nature Preschool as well as what they’ve enjoyed about it so far. The next question we asked parents was, “What is your child’s favorite part of Nature Preschool?”
His favorite part is being able to play outside in the playscape, go on nature hikes, and free choice time.
My child’s favorite part about Nature Preschool is singing! She comes home singing the Bible songs she learns every day!
Her favorite is playing with friends. Mine is that it encourages my "fancy Nancy" to get outside and get dirty. :)
She LOVES Nature Preschool! She loves spending time outdoors, and because of her studious nature, she soaks up every piece of information she learns at preschool. “Mommy, can we make pine needle tea? It has lots of vitamin C. We just have to make sure the pine needles come in a group of five needles.” And “Did you know that skunks eat wild mushrooms? They are poisonous to people, but skunks love them!” She sings songs about the parts of an insect, and talks about how snowflakes are formed. She knows which birds migrate for winter, and which stay and tough out the cold.
His favorite part of class is taking nature walks.
Playing in the mud, the slide, and the kitchen.
My son also loves to go to Blandford Nature Center. We both look forward to those days. he always has stories to tell me about what he learned with Miss Janet, where they hiked to, and what he saw!
Ms. VerWoert: Here’s what I see kids loving to do at Nature Preschool:
Finding animal tracks and scat on the trails! Yes, scat!
The mud kitchen Rainy days when the slide is super fast!
Our hikes! I am asked almost every morning, “What is our hike today, Miss VerWoert?”
Blandford Days are always full of learning, adventure, and discoveries!
