A Message from WSCS Board President, Jeff Scholtens

Dear West Side Christian School Community,

As I sit and begin to recall some of this year's highlights, I would like to focus for a few short paragraphs on what it is that sets West Side Christian School apart from other schools.

There is a level of caring at WSCS this is like very few places. I have been associated with WSCS for only 8 years (and around here, 8 years is nothing), but I am amazed at the stories I hear or am witness to. It isn't even how a teacher has gone out of their way to meet the needs of one of their students, but rather how that teacher has gotten to know their student in such a way that their specific needs are known and met. The investment of many of our staff in the lives of their students is simply amazing to me. And as the father of four WSCS students who daily receive this level of care from their teachers, I am truly grateful.

Not only have we at WSCS been blessed with staff members who care, but our West Side family is made up of parents and families who care as well. As the financial needs of some of our families have been made known, it has been nothing short of amazing to see people give without hesitation. A family helping other families is a reflection of Christ's love for us. The Christian community is called to do this, and WSCS is heeding the call.

Even on a larger scale, we see how our WSCS families care. Every year our budget gets tighter and tighter, with little (actually no) room for anything but the essentials. And every year, caring families step up and give. Some give their time, some give their talents, and some give their money. We need all three. Whether your gift is mentoring a child who needs your help, volunteering your talents, or writing that check, there is always an opportunity to show you care.

It is a wonderful feeling to be associated with people - in this case the WSCS family - who care. If you are one who cares about WSCS and have done something to show that, I say thank you. If you are one who hasn't made your mark on WSCS yet, I challenge you to get involved and show that you care.
