The students and staff motivate me each day. It’s a blessing to be able to be such an important part of their lives, especially in their spiritual growth. Every Monday morning we pray as a whole school. I am honored and humbled to serve this community and all the families who are a part of West Side Christian School. God's Kingdom is here and I am encouraged each day by the conversations I have rooted in faith and God's love. Outside of school, I love to travel around the world and explore God's creation all around me. My husband and I love to run and spend time at the lake.

While attending Kuyper, was also a four year member of the Men's Basketball team. After college has worked in athletics at many different levels from middle school to professional level with the Grand Rapids Drive. I have a passion for using athletics to build up young people. As an alumni of West Side Christian, I am blessed to be apart of this wonderful Christian community again!

After working in banking for over thirty years, God opened doors that led me to WSCS. I find satisfaction in using my skill set to help raise awareness and funds for both WSCS and its Foundation.

I graduated in 2022 from Calvin University with a BFA in Studio Art and Writing, concentrating in illustration and design.

I have a background in the education program at John Ball Zoo, a designer at Calvin University’s English Department and Nature Preserve, and now am excited to work with West Side! I am passionate about helping people tell stories, working in the intersect of creativity and communication. West Side Christian Schools is a place where I can use the gifts God is continuing to develop in me to tell His story, tell my story, and to help my neighborhood—the west side of Grand Rapids community—tell their stories too.

Why WSCS? I am passionate about WSCS because history. First my, family history - I'm a WSCS alumnus as are my husband, his mother and grandmother, and my three adult children. Currently, I have three grandchildren who are now 5th generation here! Second, school history - WSCS has a long history of providing quality Christ-centered education to all students. I am so privileged to part of it now. As technology coach, my goal is to create a technology-infused learning environment that will increase student achievement, expand technology literacy, advance digital citizenship, and create a culture of learning and innovation.

Additional Experience: Associates Degree in Child Development from Grand Rapids Community College I have been in the field of Early Childhood for many years. I feel so blessed to now be a part of the West Side Christian community! It is my goal that when young children come into the classroom they are loved not just by me, but most importantly by God. For many preschoolers this is their first experience away from parents. Creating a safe environment that will nurture and support the spiritual, emotional, social, and academic development of my students is something I strive for. I have such great joy in watching preschoolers discover the world around them and creating community with each other. I am married to Kirt and have 4 children, Lindsay, Tyler, Leah, and Mason. They are 4th generation West Siders! Outside of school I love to spend as much time with them as possible. That usually means playing games or hanging out in our backyard pool! I had the privilege of attending Trinity Christian College and have my BA in Elementary Education. I have done graduate work at MSU, Calvin University, and Grand Valley State University. I love teaching first grade, and there is great joy in first grade! Joy happens when students are learning to read and making math connections! Joy happens when we sing praises to Jesus. Joy is working with other teachers and parents who serve God and his people each day. I have pages of academic goals for my students, but my main goal is for them to see Jesus in me and in each other. Pointing their eyes up to heaven is a daily goal! Seeing their progress inspires me, and so does their opportunity for growth! For 30 years, I’ve cherished the WSCS community and our continual focus and love of learning more about God and his creation. One of my favorite Bible verses is Philippians 4: 8-9 “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” This verse reminds me to keep my heart and mind focused on Jesus.

I am a sinner saved by grace, and consider it a privilege to walk alongside students as they restore relationships with one another and are guided each day to become more like Christ. At West Side Christian, I have been able to foster relationships with students who have diverse social, emotional, and neurological needs; daily, I am reminded of the diverse beauty in God's kingdom. I enjoy working with co-workers who look for unique ways to walk with students, and meet the individual needs of each student. "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." (Romans 15:13) - It is my prayer that each student who enters my classroom would feel the "overflowing" hope, joy, and peace that Christ has given me, and live their lives in such a way that points others to Jesus through their words and actions.

In college God led me to a west side local CRC church and I was enveloped by the church and its members who sent their children to WSCS! I wanted to be a part of leading these children, as a teacher, in the ways of the Lord. I also wanted to have my daughter attend WSCS with this supportive community and Christ focused environment. After hearing about West Side through family friends I have been overwhelmed with love, support and kindness from my colleagues and the community. It truly is such a special place and it is such a privilege to live out West Side’s mission each day with my students. My favorite verse is Hosea 6:1-3 “Come, let us return to the LORD. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds. After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will restore us, that we may live in his presence. Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” I love this verse because it reminds me of God’s promises to us. Although we may face trials and tribulations in our life, I can have peace because I know God will always be there through them and will always provide us with a way back to Him.

I love walking alongside students as they learn more about themselves, others, and God through their experiences in various classes. Since teaching at Calvin Christian for five years and marrying into a "West Side family," I have heard nothing but praise for the work being done in this place. I am honored to be teaching at a school that values faith, creation care, collaboration, and creativity, and can't wait to see what the Lord does in the weeks and months to come. Favorite Bible Verse: One of my favorite verses is Ephesians 3:20, where the Lord is described as someone “who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.” I can imagine some pretty incredible things, so this verse has not only been a reminder that the Lord's plan is greater than any I could come up with myself, but also a constant source of comfort and reassurance for me during any time of uncertainty.

When I was a young girl, I explored the woods of West Michigan, curious about all the creatures and plants that lived there, fueling my passion for learning and my love for my Creator and Savior. That love of learning translated into a lifelong dedication to teaching. It amazes me that God had this special school in mind all those years ago. I praise God for how I have the opportunity to daily work in collaboration with grade-level teachers to develop West Side Christian's Pre-K - 8th-grade nature-based/ outdoor educational experiences. As an educator my passion is to make learning come alive through engaging, multi-sensory experiences that equip students to live as followers of Christ, growing spiritually and academically, while fanning their flame for a lifelong love of learning. I look forward to each and every moment I have to walk alongside the students at West Side Christian as we daily discover more about God’s creation and the gifts He has given us to use for His glory, pointing others to Him. My desire was to continue teaching in a Christian school of the Reformed faith with a family-feel to it. WSCS appears to fit this criteria. I lived on the West side for a few years after college and am happy to return to the neighborhood. Music aside, I enjoy spending time with my husband and three daughters. I like to garden and put up preserves. I relish passing warm summer nights at the Getty Drive-In Movie Theater. Favorite Bible Verse: I believe in pursuing people who will passionately praise God. Psalm 96:1-3 says, "Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, praise His name; proclaim His salvation day after day. Why WSCS: Many of my friends from church send their children to this school and I always said that if the opportunity presented itself I would apply to work here. I love the commitment of the staff to teaching Christian values to our students and being able to share my faith with the students as well. Additional experience: BA Calvin College/elementary and physical education; paraprofessional; sensory coordinator; 7th grade girls basketball coach I receive joy through the variety of students I get to work with in the ESS room. Each student has their own unique gifts and way of learning. Having coached middle school soccer, volleyball, basketball, softball and track, and as the AD, I find it rewarding to see students working hard to develop their God-given gifts, improving their skills, and working as a team. I enjoy watching all kinds of sports and I see a great variety of them watching the West Side Christian middle school athletes! Teaching PE to the youngest students is a great opportunity to teach them about all the amazing things their bodies can do. My husband Todd and I are both graduates of West Side Christian, as are our two children. We enjoy spending time at our cabin on the Little Manistee River and riding quads and a dune buggy on the trails up there. Our family loves being active, whether it is up north or in our backyard swimming pool (we live in the house I was raised in because I couldn’t live without the pool!). It is a privilege to be part of the West Side Christian School family.

Being a smaller school, it is easy to get to know all the students and staff on an individual level and build relationships. I also love how we are able to grow in relationship with Christ and encourage students in their faith. It is really special to be able to connect God's creation with our learning experiences and read the Bible in classroom settings. I love being able to serve the Lord and love on kiddos all day long. My job is always exciting and fulfilling! Favorite Bible Verse: my favorite Bible verse is the passage of Psalm 116. One portion of it reads "The Lord is gracious and righteous, our God is full of compassion. The Lord protects the simple hearted, when I was brought low, He saved me." It's a great reminder of God's grace for us and also a reflection of how He cares for and protects us as His children.

I have a high school diploma, but never attended college. I was a stay at home mom and raised four kids. I chose WSCS because the opportunity came up to work in the kitchen for the hot lunch program.
