Academics Elementary

Elementary Academics

The elementary grades (K-5) provide a full range of academic coursework. In the primary grades, priority is given to teaching reading and arithmetic skills. All of the grades are given formal instruction in Bible, science, mathematics, social studies, reading, and language arts (creative writing, grammar, spelling and handwriting). All lessons follow a carefully developed sequential academic plan so that each learning experience serves as a building block for the next grade. The academic studies are taught from a Christian perspective. All students participate in daily devotions and weekly chapels.

At WSCS we provide academic excellence through challenging curriculum and caring teachers. We think that the "college preparatory" mission begins as early as Pre-K, with the teaching of critical thinking skills, good study habits, and the love of learning. We also set ourselves apart as a Christian School. We embed all we teach with the Bible, a Christian lifestyle, and fostering a servant heart. Every five years the curriculum is carefully reviewed, evaluated and updated.

Specials

Throughout the week, students participate in Specials.  West Side Christian School provides a wealth of additional programs to develop each child's God-given potential including classes in art, music, Spanish, snd physical education. In addition, students spend time in the technology lab throughout the week receiving specialized instruction and working on classroom assignments. Leadership skills are promoted through our student government program and student-led activities.
