Meap Scores

The Michigan Educational Assessment Program, commonly known as MEAP, is a standardized test which is given to all public school students in Michigan (grades 3-8). Many non-public schools, including WSCS, also give the test, particularly to 7th and 8th graders. The MEAPs are offered to our 7th and 8th graders here at West Side Christian mainly because of college scholarship money connected to the test and student scores. Many of our students during the past few years have benefited by taking the test and meeting the scoring requirements. In the past, meeting these requirements in 7th and 8th grade resulted in receiving $500 of the $3,000 available (in combination with 11th grade test results). However, the state of Michigan has discontinued giving the $500 for 7th and 8th grade scores (effective '07-'08 school year). The $3,000 college scholarship money will be given as a result of the tests given to high school juniors.

West Side Christian School is studying the whole area of MEAP tests. It is an assessment tool that is used to indicate student progress in core ares (math, science, social studies, and language arts) as they relate to the Michigan curriculum standards and benchmarks. Our WSCS curriculum committees are studying the Michigan standards and benchmarks as it relates to our own curriculum structure. Many of the benchmarks and standards are already a part of our own curriculum program.

8th Grade Meap Scores

These links show our average percent scores and compares WSCS to other schools in our area (Grand Rapids Public, Kenowa Hills, Walker Charter, and West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science). You will notice that both 7th grade and 8th grade scores exceed the scores of other area schools in all categories. That's impressive, but not surprising. We have a great school, staff, homes and students. We continue to work to provide a quality, Christ-centered education. We trust these MEAP reports will help verify to you our strong program and give you a tool to use for prospective families looking for a strong Christian academic program.
