Romans 12 provides some beautiful direction about living the Christian life and being in Christian community, and in my work here at West Side I am particularly drawn to verses 4 & 5. We belong to one another and each of us (teachers as well as students) has something to offer our brothers and sisters and the world at large. This drives my work as one who has the privilege of supporting our teachers in discovering each student's strengths as well as areas in need of support in order to direct instruction toward each of their needs. A quote I love is, "Fair is not everyone getting the same thing, it's everyone getting what they need in order to be successful." I believe in a Creator who has gifted each of us uniquely, and I desire for the students I work with to share this belief and to feel valued and loved exactly as they are. I love having a front-row seat to so many of our students' faith and academic journeys and look forward to walking with them as they grow and change from year-to-year.
In my own family I am humbled (daily), awed, and occasionally frazzled as I have a front row seat to the growth of my own four children. I love reading and music (I've been known to sing and play the violin) and spending whatever time I can with my husband, James. Returning from a 20-year stint in Illinois after growing up in Holland, I am also soaking up time with my extended family as well as friends both old and new while enjoying all the beauty “the mitten state” has to offer.
